AI Chatbots That Show Their Homework

Updated August 2026 · 5 min read

The biggest problem with AI chatbots was never the technology. It's trust. A visitor asks about your returns policy, the bot answers confidently, and somewhere in that sentence is a detail you never told it. Nobody checks the fine print. They just stop believing the site, and worse, they stop believing you.

So we built the chatbot that shows its homework.

The problem with confident bots

Every chatbot on the market claims to answer from your content. The difference is what happens when the content runs out. Some bots improvise, politely but dangerously. Others refuse to answer anything, which is just as useless for your customers. The trustworthy middle ground is rare, and it's the only one that keeps a customer on your site.

What we built

Answers with sources. When the bot answers from a page you crawled or an FAQ you wrote, the answer carries a "From" line. Your delivery page, your FAQ, your docs: named, and linked where we have the URL. If the bot can't point to something in your knowledge base, it says so and offers a human instead of inventing a policy. That single behaviour removes the fear that makes people abandon chat widgets.

Lead capture when it matters. When a question needs a human, the visitor can leave their name and email right in the widget. It lands in your inbox with an alert. No form on your site required, no lost enquiries at 9pm on a Sunday.

The missed-questions digest. This one's my favourite. Every Monday, one email tells you what your bot did all week: how many questions it answered, the exact questions it couldn't, and the leads it caught. Missed questions come with a direct link to add that answer to the knowledge base. The bot literally tells you how to make it smarter. Nobody else in this category does that on a £15 plan.

Why this matters for a small business

Trust converts. A customer who sees the source of an answer doesn't wonder whether the bot made it up, so they act on it: they buy, they book, they send the enquiry. And the digest turns your chatbot from a cost centre into a research tool, because every week you learn exactly what your customers are asking that you haven't answered yet. That's market research your competitors are paying agencies for.

How it works

You train the bot the same way you always have: paste text, add FAQs, or give it your website URL and it crawls. The sources, lead capture and digest all come from that content and the conversations it powers. No setup, no extra cost, included on the free plan.
