How to Add an AI Chatbot to Shopify, Wix or Any Website

Updated August 2026 · 6 min read

Most chatbot guides assume you run WordPress. A lot of businesses don't — they're on Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, or a site a developer built and you'd rather not touch. Good news: none of that matters. ChatNest's one-line embed works on all of them, and this guide shows where exactly to paste it on each platform. No plugin, no developer, no theme surgery.

The embed, explained

Every ChatNest chatbot comes with a single line of code — a script tag — that you copy from Chatbots → Embed in your dashboard. Paste it into the right spot on your site and the widget appears, styled to your brand, loaded from ChatNest's servers. The line is always the same; only the token inside it is yours.

Because the widget loads asynchronously, it doesn't slow your site down. And because the AI runs on ChatNest's servers, your hosting barely notices it's there.

Shopify

In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes, open the ⋯ menu on your theme and choose Edit code. On the left, find theme.liquid (it's usually at the top of the Layout folder). Scroll to the very bottom, find the </body> tag, and paste the embed line just before it. Save, and the widget appears on every page of your store.

If the idea of touching theme code makes you twitchy: it's a paste before one closing tag. The tag is there in every theme, and if you paste exactly where this guide says, nothing else moves.

Wix

In the Wix editor, go to Settings → Custom Code (older editors call it Tracking & Analytics). Click + Add Custom Code, paste the embed line, and set it to load on All pages. Save and publish. The custom code area is built for exactly this — you're using the feature as intended.

Squarespace

In Squarespace, go to Settings → Advanced → Code Injection. Paste the embed line into the Footer field — not the header, because the script wants to run after the page content. Save, and the widget appears site-wide.

A plain HTML or custom site

Open the HTML file, find </body>, paste the line just before it. Upload, done. It works on static sites, custom-built sites and everything in between, because the script doesn't care what framework built the page — it just needs to exist before the page finishes loading.

WordPress? Use the plugin instead

The embed works on WordPress too, but if you're on WordPress you get a nicer path: the ChatNest plugin. Upload it, activate it, paste your token into Settings, and the widget appears on every page — no code at all. The embed is the universal option; the plugin is the WordPress shortcut.

Before you publish: test the widget in your dashboard's live preview first — name, avatar, colours, welcome message. You only paste the embed once; make sure what appears is what you want customers to meet.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add an AI chatbot to Shopify?

Yes. Edit your theme's theme.liquid file and paste the embed line just before the closing body tag. The widget appears on every page.

Does it work on Wix and Squarespace?

Yes. Wix has Settings → Custom Code; Squarespace has Settings → Advanced → Code Injection. Same line of code in either.

Do I need a developer to embed a chatbot?

No. The embed is one line you copy from your dashboard and paste into a settings box.

Will it work on a custom or plain HTML site?

Yes. Paste the line before the closing body tag on any HTML page.

Is there an easier option than the embed?

On WordPress, use the ChatNest plugin — no code at all. The embed is for every other platform.
